Are You Tough Enough for Prescott’s Whiskey Row Marathon?
Are you tough enough for Prescott’s Whiskey Row Marathon this weekend? Billed by the race organizers as “one of the toughest marathons in the United States,” Prescott’s Whiskey Row Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K (and 2-mile Fun Run) features a course that definitely lives up to its reputation, with a steep climb from the starting line to the half-way point in the race of roughly 1,000 feet in elevation. Saturday, May 5th marks the 40th anniversary of this town favorite activity.
Starting and finishing in historic downtown Prescott at Courthouse Square, 120 S Cortez St, home of the famous Whiskey Row, this marathon course is considered one of the most difficult in the U.S., offering panoramic views of Northern Arizona. Starting at 5,280 feet, the elevation increases at 7,000 feet at the thirteen mile turn around. The course is paved and dirt road. You may walk or run any of the events. Here are the details below:
Marathon starts 6:00 a.m.
Half Marathon 7:00 a.m.,
10K Run 7:20 a.m.
2 Mile Fun Run 7:15 a.m.
Proceeds from this race go directly into the scholarship fund at the James Family Prescott YMCA to assist children and families in financial need to participate in child care, swimming lessons, youth sports and gymnastics classes. The James Family Prescott YMCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, community-focused organization. The Whiskey Row Marathon is their largest fund raiser for program scholarships which help families in our community.
