This Holiday Season, Stress Less, Enjoy More!

The holidays can be a joyful time, offering a chance to reconnect with loved ones, celebrate the spirit of giving and refresh for the upcoming New Year. But they can also be a stressful time filled with worries about finances, getting the perfect gifts for family, and hectic traveling. There never seems to be enough time to get things done. So here are some quick tips to help you stress less and enjoy more this holiday season!

  • Set spending limits: Lack of money is one of the biggest causes of stress during the holiday season. And it’s easy to lose track of what you’re spending on gifts on top of all your other financial responsibilities. It’s okay to set a budget or tell your children that a certain toy costs too much. It’s not worth it buying gifts that you’ll spend the rest of the year trying to pay off. Or give meaningful gifts that don’t break the bank like photo collages, fresh baked goodies, or a coupon book filled with nice things you can do for loved ones.
  • Say no: With all the invites to holiday dinners, white elephant gift exchanges, and company Christmas parties it’s easy to get overwhelmed and overfill your calendar with events and added stress. It’s okay to say “no” to events that aren’t important to you or that you just don’t have the time to attend. This will give you more time to say “yes” to events that really matter to you. You can’t please everyone so you’ve got to please yourself.
  • Breathe and break: When you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed, you’re less likely to eat well, stay active or get ample sleep. And being overly stressed compromises your immune system and makes you more susceptible to cold, flu and fatigue. Be sure to pay attention to your own needs and feelings. Spend a little time by yourself if you can. Meditate, or do some relaxation breathing. Go for a short walk or just veg out and take a break when needed. You can’t get anything done if you’re having a holiday nervous breakdown.

Most importantly, remember that not EVERYTHING has to be perfect. Flights get cancelled. Dinners burn. And some relatives just can’t get along no matter where you sit them at the table. Just remember to focus on the positives and enjoy the little things this holiday season. Because at the end of the day, the little things are all that really matter. From all of us at Crystal Creek Builders, we wish you and yours a Happy Holiday and a very Merry Christmas!
